NOPSSCEA Elem. Boys Karatedo Champ

In the tradition of producing young talents in karatedo, Jack & Jill School – PHHC successfully defended its twin crowns in elementary boys and girls karatedo in this year’s NOPSSCEA competition.

Tournament manager Randy Mengullo said Czesar Rein Florete led the Elan Delfin-mentored JJS boys team with two gold medals in kata and kumite for eight years old and below while teammates Dante Jose Samonte III, Fritz Alrich Sampang, and Rolin Hundana also topped their events.

Samonte won the gold in 8-9 years old kumite while Sampang ruled the 10-11 years old kumite and Hundana the 12 years old kumite.

In the girls’ department, Jasmine Veniegas, Kyle Jewel Felasor, Abegail Bringuer, Sydnnie Samonte, Razhel Gee Mengullo, and Stephanie Samonte all won gold medals in their respective age bracket.

Veniegas reigned in 8-9 kata, Felasor was unbeatable in 8-9 kumite, Bringuer beat her opponents in 10-11 kata, Sydnnie Samonte won her final event in 10-11 kumite, Mengullo won the gold in 12 years old kumite and Stephanie Samonte dominated the 12 years old kata.

La Consolacion College-Bacolod, coached by Bert Arcositas, and University of St. La Salle , mentored by Joy Sobrevega and Mario Lizares, split the honors in the college category while Megumi Academy and St. Scholastica’s Academy prevailed in the high school division.

Michael Lizares bagged two gold medals in men’s kata and +50 kgs. kumite while fellow LCC karateka John Ace Tupas turned back his opponents in +55 kgs. men’s kumite.

La Sallians Roselle Dullan and Kristina Graziella Celiz crowned themselves champion in women’s group by topping the kata and kumite events.

In the high school competition, John Rey Condes and Florian Agustia registered impressive performances in juniors kata and kumite for Megumi to bring home this year’s NOPSSCEA title while SSA’s Leanne Lorayna finished with two gold medals in cadet kata and kumite in the girls’ department.*NIDA A.
