JJS karatedo team overall champs

The Jack and Jill School in PHHC snared 14 golds, three silvers and two bronzes to emerge overall champion in the 4th Presidential Cup Karatedo Championship at the Robinson’s Metro Plaza in Bacolod City over the weekend.

Jose Carlo Gacho and Jan Alfred Pontino ruled the eight and 9-year-old boys’ categories, respectively, of of the kumite or sparring event, while Nicholas Dolorfo and Emilio Alimon III bagged the gold medals in the 10 and 12-year-old boys’ divisions, respectively.

In the girls’ side, Razhel Gee Mengullo and Kathleen Nicole Genson posted first place finishes in the eight and 9-year-old categories, respectively, as Jorizza Garcia won the 10-year-old division.

Finishing first in the 11 and 12-year-old categories, respectively, are Gian Gacho and Crissa Mae Mationg.

Dolorfo and Alimon also topped their respective categories in the kata, or forms event, of the boys category together with Garcia and Mationg in the girls’ division.

The silver medalists in kumite were Norbe Ian Abedo, Angelo Ramon Mongcal and Mayumi Liwayway Espina, while James Guanzon and Jessica Escaran ended up as third placers.

The tournament, organized by the Union of Martial Arts Organization of Negros and Bacolod, also drew entries from Talisay City’s ATLETA Karatedo and Dos Hermanas Karatedo, Shotokan Karate, Castleson High-Victorias City. Masthodon, Bertar Karate Kan, and Vilcat Karatedo-La carlota City.

Wado-ryu Karatedo, Bacolod Martial Arts Federation, Castleson High-City Heights,JJS-HOmesite and Advocacy for Strengthening of Karatedo also participated in the event. Visayan Daily Star/10-4-2005

Karate Team hauls POF Medals

Karatekas carrying the colors of Jack & Jill School in Bacolod City bagged a total of 10 medals in the Philippine Olympic Festival (POF) Visayas leg hosted by Iloilo Province last September 12-14, 2007.

Leading the Gold Medalists was James Inno Guanzon of Grade 5-Gem who topped the boys’ 10-11 years old category kata (forms) and kumite (sparring).

Also winning the gold medalists were Rhazel Gee Mengullo (girls’ 8-9 kata), John Blisse Del Castillo (boys’ 8-9 kumite) and Aaron Andrei Lubrico (boys’ 8-9 kata).

Mengullo, a bronze winner in the 20th Philippine Karatedo Federation (PKF) National Open, also wonthe kumite silver in her category, while Seth Jego Balibalos and Lubrico settled for second and third, behind Del Castillo.

Other Negros Occidental Karatedo Federation (NOKAF) members who joined the JJS squad were PKF national gold medalist Leanne Lorayna and Kristina Graziella Celiz from St. Scholastica’s Academy; JJS alumnae Crissa Mae Mationg and Jorizza Mai Garcia of St. Joseph’s School-La Salle also topped the girls’ age-group categories.
