Jack and Jill School in Homesite seized 10 gold medals to bring home the overall crown in the Mayor Evelio Leonardia Karatedo Cup Tournament in Bacolod City durind the weekend.
Spearheading JJS-Homesite campaign were Seth Jego Balibalos, Jan Sobrevega and John Blisse Del Castillo as they ruled the synchronized team kata competitions in the boys’ 9 years old category.
The victory of JJS-Homesite however, was not a walk in the park as the Bertar Karate Kan bets claimed nine golds to place first runner-up, while finishing second runners-up were the Advocacy for Strengthening of Karatedo-Cebu and ATLETA-Talisay with four golds each.
Del Castillo added another gold to the coffers of JJS-Homesite when he reigned supreme in the boys’ 9-year-old kumite hostilities, while Razhel Gee Mengullo hauled two golds when she reigned supreme in the girls’ 9-year-old kata and kumite divisions.
Also posting top honors for JJS-Homesite were Shannon Libre and James Inno Guanzon, grabbing the golds in the girls’ 10-year-old kata and boys’ 11-year-old kumite, respectively.
Other private school karatekas, who teamed up with JJS-Homesite to don its colors also delivered gold medals.
Kristina Graziella Celiz of St. Scholastica’s Academy hauled the golds in the kata and kumite competitions ofthe girls’ cadet category, while compatriot Leanne Lorayna bagged the girls’ 11-year-old kumite gold. Emilio Alimon III of St. Joseph’s School-La Salle took the gold in the kumite hostilities ofthe boys cadet division.
JJS-Homesite, mentored by Elan Delfin with Randy Mengullo acting as chief instructor, also snatched 10 silvers and six bronzes.
Also competing in the event, which saw an exhibition showdown by the women’s synchronized squad of the Philippine karatedo team, were ASK-Bacolod and Castleson High. VISAYAN DAILY STAR/11-28-06
